Do I need a personal consultation appointment before the microblading treatment?
The consultation appointment is not absolutely necessary but can help you remove any doubts and clarify questions.
What is microblading?
Microblading is a semi-permanent form of cosmetic tattooing. But unlike traditional tattoos, which use a tattoo gun, microblading uses a blade-shaped tool with a row of tiny, barely visible needles to create hair-like strokes along your brows while depositing pigment into your skin. The result? Realistic-looking brow hairs that don’t wash off for years.
What is the difference between microblading and “classic” permanent makeup?
The first major difference between microblading and permanent makeup lies in the method of application. With permanent makeup, a tattoo machine is used, where a series of needles – either stacked or arranged in a circular configuration – vibrate to implant pigment into the skin. This technique typically fills in the entire eyebrow area.
In contrast, microblading is performed manually using a fine blade made up of multiple micro-needles. This allows the practitioner to create delicate, hair-like strokes, resulting in fuller yet more natural-looking brows.
While microblading is exclusively used for eyebrows, permanent makeup can also be applied to other areas, such as eyeliner and lips.
Will I look unnatural with microblading?
Not at all. Microblading is specifically designed to achieve a natural appearance. It is an excellent option for those seeking subtle enhancement. Well-shaped brows can also help boost confidence, especially for individuals who feel self-conscious about thin or sparse eyebrows.
How long does microblading last?
On average, microblading results last between 12 and 18 months without additional touch-ups.
However, longevity can vary. In some cases, results may fade sooner, while in others they can last up to three years. Factors such as age, skin type, lifestyle, and sun exposure all play a role in how long the pigment remains visible.
Is the procedure painful?
Most people report only feeling minimal pressure or less pain and discomfort than a regular tattoo due to the use of numbing cream. Of course, this will depend on your own personal tolerance to pain. Some level of pain or discomfort should be expected.
Are there risks with microblading?
Microblading is a safe procedure when performed by a certified and experienced technician who maintains strict hygiene standards and uses high-quality products. Before your treatment, we recommend a consultation to discuss your expectations and ensure the procedure is suitable for you.
How long does the procedure take?
The initial treatment takes approximately two hours. Follow-up (touch-up) appointments usually take about one hour.
Already have microblading from another studio?
If you have existing microblading, our artist will only proceed after a consultation or after reviewing photos.
You are welcome to send pictures via WhatsApp at 079 939 94 94 (e.g. for cover-ups or corrections).
Do I need a follow-up treatment (touch-up)?
Yes. The skin needs time to heal after the initial treatment, and your brows will go through several phases. Initially, they may appear darker, followed by slight scabbing. As healing progresses, some color may fade, which can make the result seem uneven.
Once healing is complete, the color usually returns, but in some cases, small gaps or irregularities may remain. This is completely normal, as every skin type heals differently.
The touch-up appointment is essential to refine the result. It allows us to:
- Fill in areas where pigment did not retain properly
- Perfect the shape and color
- Make small adjustments if needed
In some cases, if pigment retention is limited, we may recommend adding microshading for a more lasting result.
To maintain your desired look, most clients benefit from a refresh treatment every 12–24 months.
How will I look immediately after the treatment?
Right after the procedure, slight swelling and sensitivity may occur. Applying a cool compress for about 10 minutes can help reduce discomfort.
Your eyebrows will appear darker and more defined during the first few days. This is part of the normal healing process and typically settles within 3–5 days.
Healing phase – what to avoid (first 7–10 days):
During the healing period, it is important to avoid:
- Water contact on the brows
- Direct sun exposure and solariums
- Saunas and swimming pools
- Excessive sweating (e.g. intense workouts)
- Touching the brows with unclean hands
Aftercare treatment:
After your procedure, you will receive an aftercare kit containing wipes, cream, and cotton swabs, along with detailed instructions tailored to your skin type.
As a general guideline:
- Gently clean your brows during the first 24–48 hours to prevent excessive scabbing
- Apply a very thin layer of the provided cream
- Repeat this process 3–5 times per day
Important during the first 7 days:
- Do not apply makeup or skincare products on the eyebrows
- Avoid dust and dirt exposure
- Do not rub or scratch the area
- Avoid swimming, sunbathing, and intense physical activity
- Refrain from abrasive or cosmetic treatments around the eye area
Long-term aftercare:
- Always protect your brows with sunscreen
- Avoid solariums
- Do not undergo laser or IPL treatments in the eyebrow area, as this may affect pigmentation
- Be aware that certain medications (e.g. antibiotics) can influence pigment retention or color
What to consider before your appointment:
- You should be in good general health
- Avoid scheduling during menstruation, as sensitivity may be increased
- Do not take blood-thinning medications (e.g. Aspirin)
- Do not attend the appointment if you feel unwell or have a fever
24 hours before your treatment, avoid:
- Alcohol
- Nicotine
- Caffeine (coffee, energy drinks)
